This brand was introduced by plug manufacturer James T. Drummond in 1873 when he opened his small tobacco shop.

Chesterfield was the most popular brand of such famous American actors as Humphrey Bogart and James Dean who smoked up to 2 packs per day. Also it was a favorite cigarette brand of football Alabama team coach.

In early 1960s the most famous Chesterfield adv slogan was: "Chesterfield People: They like a mild smoke, but they don’t like filters." with different pictures of smoking people in the process of walking.

In 1961 when other favorite brands presented their 100 mm length cigarettes Chesterfield manufacturers brought their own version called 101. In fact Chesterfield cigarettes were 1 mm longer then their 100 mm competitors and it gave the name for this brand name.

Basing on this fact a new adv slogan for Chesterfield 101 was born: "a silly millimeter longer".

Nowadays Chesterfield is property of “Philip Morris” company and sold in following varieties: Chesterfield Original, Chesterfield Lights and Chesterfield Ultra Lights.
